Here is Aawen Design's 10 Top Tips on approaching a Design Project

It is always a good idea to know what you are getting yourself in for, clients often ask 'what do you need from me?'. Adrian Taylor, a creative director at Aawen Design has put together these top ten tips when approaching a project.
1. Have a clear, well defined idea of your target audience. Age, social status, sex etc.
2. Do not try to be something for everyone, your message will either get confused or be too bland.
3. Ensure that each piece of marketing reflects your company's brand values.
4. Keep text down to a minimum. Concise, factual, intriguing, plain speaking. Put additional information on-line.
5. At all costs do not forget to put contact details on everything you do - especially your web address!.
6. Always display your logo in a consistent manner so viewers can immediately link each piece of marketing to your company.
7. When proofing, check, check and check again. Ideally have someone else new to the project check too.
8. Set a realistic budget and allow for extras such as illustration, copy-writing, photography etc.
9. Test any design work with your current clients to ensure that it appeals to your target market.
10. Be realistic in your expectations for untargeted, broadcast marketing. On average this will net about a 3% response.

We pride ourselves on offering great value for money - designers like any other professional come in all shapes and sizes, but we feel our extensive experience means we bring a lot more to the table than many others and can achieve a lot more for a like-for-like budget - don't be misled by someone quoting a low hourly rate as that can mask the time it will take them to deliver.

Most projects we undertake have unique elements which mean we prepare proposals and costs on a bespoke basis, after all no two projects or clients are alike and therefore niether are costs. To help as best we can however, we can provide fixed cost quotes rather than ambiguous estimates to help you manage your budget accurately and in some cases we can give examples of costs for "similar" projects as a guideline. My best advice however, would be for you to talk to us about your project, your business, your budget (if you can) and of course the project objectives, this way will mean you get an accurate assesment of posibilities and costs - and it is of course obligation free so what have you got to lose!
